Minerals and gems have been given many attributes throughout the ages. Different traditions ascribe different traits to them - this is a general list of stones and their common associations.

Aventurine.jpgAdventurine (Aventurine) - Aventurine is a type of green quartz often used for carvings and cabochons. A good luck stone, especially in financial matters. Stimulates creativity, intelligence and perception. A great healing stone, it gives a sense of mental and emotional well-being.  

 

 Agate.jpgAgate - Agate is a form of chalcedony quartz that forms in concentric layers in a remarkable variety of colors and textures.  General protection and healing, increases courage, self-confidence, and energy and promotes longevity. Also good for gardening.  Chakras: Base, Earth Star, Heart, Link, Navel, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Throat, Thymus  Astrological sign: Gemini, Libra 

Dendritic Agate.jpgDendritic Agate- is a whitish-gray or colorless chalcedony with fern-like inclusions known as  dendrites. The inclusions look like plant material, but they are actually iron or manganese.

Fire Agate.jpgFire Agate- is an opaque, limonite-bearing chalcedony with an iridescence which is created by diffraction of light by the layered structure.

Geode Agate.jpgGeode Agate - Geodes are rock cavities or vugs with internal crystal formations. 

 

Alexandrite.jpgAlexandrite - Alexandrite is one of the rarest of all colored gemstones and is famed for its color change from green in daylight to red under incandescent light.  Amazonite.jpgAmazonite - Amazonite is a gemstone variety of green microcline, a feldspar mineral. It is named after the Amazon River in Brazil., though no deposits have been found there. Helps clarify and improve thinking. Chakras: Heart, Throat  Astrological sign: Virgo, Aquarius 

 Amber.jpgAmber The fossilized, hardened resin of the pine tree, is one of the few gemstones of organic origin. Most amber is found in the Baltic, where it formed about 50 million years ago.  Healing, protection from negativity, attractiveness and energy.  Chakras: Crown, Heart, Soul Star, Throat, Thymus   Astrological sign: Taurus, Libra

 Amethyst.jpgAmethyst - The most precious gemstone within the quartz group. Amethyst ranges in color from pale lilac to deep reddish purple.  Increases vivid dreams, relieves depression, promotes calm, serenity, and spirituality. A protective stone used to create stability and structure in your life. Transforms the negative energies in your life into a positive flow. Aids in relaxation especially in the birthing process. Apatite.jpgApatite - A stone seldom found in jewelry stores, is beloved by collectors for its many different colors and forms.  Helps stuttering and hypertension. Rids one of guilt and grief.  Chakras: Throat, Thymus Astrological sign: Gemini

Aquamarine.jpgAquamarine - Best known for its breathtaking range of blue colors and belongs to the same family as emerald (beryl). Aragonite.jpgAragonite(AKA tufa and tchazar crystal) It is a mellow, orange or straw yellow-colored carbonate gemstone that has come to symbolize truth and understanding. The Aragon River in Spain, where it was first discovered in 1788, and is what the mineral is named after.  Aragonite is a carbonated metamorphous gemstone naturally found in stalactites or around natural hot springs.  Grounding and centering, facing truth and reality.  Chakras: Sacral   Astrological sign: None

Axinite.jpgAxinite -A group of brown to violet-brown or reddish brown minerals that sometimes occur in gem quality. Axinite is distinctive for its strong vitreous luster when polished.  Focuses thoughts, inspires our playful nature, helps with meeting people and making friends.  Chakras: All  Astrological sign: None

Azurite.jpgAzurite - A  blue colored stone formed from the oxidation of copper ores. The name of this stone is derived from the Persian word ‘lajward’ which means ‘blue’. This stone is normally found along with Malachite Gemstones. Because of its color of this stone it is used in creating blue pigment for paints and fabric dyes. The blue color in the Michelangelo Painting in the Sistine Chapel is most likely azurite increases psychic ability and aids in meditation.  Relieves arthritis and joint pain.  Chakras: All, Frontal, Soul Star, Third Eye, Throat, Thymus  Astrological sign: None, Capricorn, Aquarius
